Fraction to a Percent

WOW! 2009 Technology Bootcamp

We are the "Fraction Divas":
Lori Ekes, Mitchell Intermediate, 5th Grade Math
Chris Robbins, Mitchell Intermediate, Spec. Ed 5th grade self-contained
Mary Buller, Austin Elementary, 4th Grade GT Math/Science/Social Studies

How do you change a fraction to a percent?

As students we learned how to multiply to find an equivalent fraction, simplify the fraction, understand the concept of percent, and convert the fraction to a percent.

As teachers we discovered the internet and technology is more powerful in teachng a child than a worksheet or lecture. It was incredible to watch all of the children in the Hole-in-the-wall experiment in India learn from one computer without adult supervision. We learned how to produce several educationally beneficial projects using the internet "cloud" instead of consuming paper. It was an enjoyable and engaging experience.

We used http://moodle.conroeisd.net, http://wordle.net, www.toondoo.com, www.glogster.com, www.blogspot.com, http://blabberize.com, www.photobucket.com, googledocs (CISD portal), and www.animoto.com

Glogster and Toondoo illustrate the process of converting a fraction to a percent. Wordle highlights the vocabulary involved:
